MP3 blog 2012/09/18

blog 2012/09/18 - OH WUT HI IT'S ME!

Did you think I wasn't coming back?  Even more than that:

NEW CPI MIX COMING OUT!  Starting with a livestreamed debut this Wednesday.
http://www.facebook.com/events/143263682484988/

RSVP and pass it around.  Be one of the first to download it when you get the link at the livestream.
If you miss it, it will be up by Friday, and that means DANCE PARTY WEEKEND.

Now, on to the new update!!!

Animal Collective - Today's Supernatural:  Centipede Hz finds Animal Collective in a much more firm Flaming Lips shadow of indie psychedelica.  It won't change the world, but enjoy it with some tequila and lemonade.

Antony and the Johnsons - Cut the World
Antony and the Johnsons - Epilepsy is Dancing (orchestral):  HOLY SHIT NEW ANTONY.  Cut the World is a brave new album that succeeds where other artists release "live / remix /rarity / hits" filler albums.  First, it leads with a hot new single.  Then it follows that with a 7 minute live spoken word piece on future feminism.  Then it lines up many of the classics with catastrophically effecting orchestral accompaniment.  Highly recommended.

DWNTWN - Alamo Square:  Super smooth electropop that even gives The Postal Service a few lessons.

JJ - 10:  jj have been wavering somewhat lately, but I did love this track off the new High Summer

Killer Mike - Don't Die
Killer Mike - Southern Fried:  2 hot n heavy joints off the new album R.A.P. Music, a collab with El-P.  I didn't hear the whole thing, but love these ones.

Moby - The Day (Yeasayer Remix):  I don't know why I’m surprised, but Yeasayer has emerged as this force that gives us really interesting remixes that move beyond the confines of their source material.

Oh Snap!! - Trapstorm:  I hate the term "trap" as a genre.  No wait, I just hate how quickly everyone was so giddy to pluck it from it's specific localized meaning and label everything on soundcloud as trap and thus kill it's meaning before it even formed.  Maybe that's just the future.  Well future, meet the past.  Everyone's favourite DDR classic gets the 2012 rework!

Passion Pit - Constant Conversations:  There's something Monkees-esque in this delightfully mellow pop number.  The new album Gossamer is out, and I haven't heard it yet but I'm hyped.

Santigold - The Keepers:  OK, one last track from Santigol'd Master Of My Make-Believe, just because this reminds me of 80s pop.

Schlachthofbronx - Slowine:  MOUTHAFUCKING BASS BIN MADNESS.  OMG SO GOOD.

School Of Seven Bells - Show Me Love:  More delicate pop smoothness from the new album Ghostory!  Recommended

Skeewiff & Keith Mansfield - ASBO
Skeewiff & Keith Nichols - Broken Blues:  Jazzy licks that just scream SASSY.

The Ting Tings - Hit Me Down Sonny
The Ting Tings - Silence (Bag Raiders Remix):  New album is Sounds From Nowheresville.

The XX - Angels
The XX - Try:  While Coexist can't possibly have the same impact as their debut album, it will perfectly guide you in to fall, and next in winter's icy deathgrip of love.

Yamantaka // Sonic Titan - Lamia:  Adult Swim released this single as part of their 2012 single program and oh thank you thank you thank you!  A new dose of one of the most exciting sounds in Canada right now.
