MP3 blog 2013/06/18

blog 2013/06/18 - we looked sideways out

Aidan Baker - Already Drowning with Clara Engel:  With Already Drowning, Aidan Baker gets in to some late night simmering that brings me in to a Elizabeth Anka Vajagic kind of place.  Surprising, Baker's world manages to have even more love.  A really interesting turn for this oft-producing artist.

Animal Collective - New Town Burnout (Shabazz Palaces Remix):  Shabazz all over this one with some great halloween groove shit, from Monkey Been To Burn Town.

Arcade Fire - Brazil:  Brazil is one of those songs, like Girl From Ipanema, that I ALWAYS want to hear every single cover of since it's such a timeless classic.  From the old release Cold Wind.

Gabriel & Castellon - Hum:  bo bo bo bo bo bo boom boom boom boom

Grizzly Bear - Sleeping Ute (Nicolas Jaar Remix):  Because hey, we all know that Grizzly Bear needed MORE echo on it.

Hectic - Rooftop NYE VIP:  And sometimes we just need some VIP bass.

Method Man x Heyoka - Release Yo Camanche (Stylust Beats mash):  These 2 lovebirds were made for each other.

Nathan Hanson & Brian Roessler - La Lune Est Morte:  A little slice of beauty off of Selenographia.

Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds - Mermaids:   is pretty epic, and still growing eon me, so no final verdict yet.  Every once in a while you just give up and say FINE, NICK CAVE, TELL US ABOUT YOUR PENIS AGAIN.

Phoenix - The Real Thing:  Don't get me wrong, this track is pretty great, but it's sounding a little bit more ummm… generic?  Then the other Phoenix stuff.  New album is Bankrupt! and I will still certainly check it out.

Sister Nancy - Bam Bam (Zebo's We Nuh Digital Remix):  The classic gets flipped up again!

Sleeping At Last - Snow:  Just delicate and touching and perfect.

Super Fuzzy - Link In Love:  Tragically short, I love the 8-bit romance.

The Evens - King of Kings
The Evens - Wanted Criminals:  Ian Mackeye teams up with his wife for The Odds and together gives us an amazing album that will satisfying both Fugazi fans and fans of husband/wife duos.  Recommended!

UZ & CRNKN - Booty 2 The Ground (TWRK REMIX):  This is what bass is all about.

Vampire Weekend - Step:  An admirably non-obnoxious nhew single from the brand new VW album!

Winny Puhh - Meiecundimees üks Korsakov läks eile Lätti:  It's Estonia vs the world at Eurovision, and we all won.

MP3 blog 2013/06/13

blog 2013/06/13 - 2 in 1 WEEK!

Angel Haze - Werkin' Girls (Dream Koala Remix):  Oh dream koala I love you, come snuggle me… in my DREAMS!~!~!

Best Coast - Fear My Own Identity
Best Coast - Who Have I Become:  Incredible new single from Best Coast!  SO GOOD.

Bonobo - Towers:  So not everyone loves all of Bonobo's moves and grooves, but this is another certain new highlight from The North Borders.

California Wives - Purple:  From the 2010 album Affair.

Crystal Castles - Sad Eyes (Invisibles Remix):  Man o man, Crystal Castles keeps on giving.  Each new album is followed by a brilliant run of lovingly rendered remixes.

Dan Deacon - Prettyboy:  I used to be a naysayer, the early albums just to annoying for me, but lordy lord, Deacon's America is a stunning accomplishment.

Daniel Klauser - Tocuaco (Melo Moombahton Edit):  We've gone to far, people.  We hit the edge.  DIAL BACK THAT BPM AND GET GROOVY.

Fe - Let It Go:  I know Fe means Iron, but I can't help but just say "FEH! FEH! FEH!"  At least it's a beautiful song.

Ghostface Killah & Adrian Younge - The Rise of the Ghostface Killah ft Masta Killa & Killa Sin:  Ghostface still killing it after all these years.  New album is Twelve Reasons To Die.

Janet Jackson - Someone To Call My Lover (Giraffage Remix):  21st century Jackson Action!

JMSN - Fallin (The Abyss Remix):  I'm all about thispitched down vocal business.

Karma Kid - In My Arms (Maths Times Joy Remix):  Wicked + smooth.

Melissa Laveaux - Postman:  Hot new Mélissa Laveaux single is out to make us all melt!  Incredible.

Odesza - How Did I Get Here
Odesza - I Want You:  2 slices of smooth beatwork from the album Summer's Gone.

Run The Jewels - Get It:  You know what's amazing?  El-P & Killer Mike.  Even better?  Them getting together.  Even better?  Them releasing a free collab album, coming by the end of the month.  HOT SHIT.

Solace vs Nick Warren - Solace In The Devil's Elbow (LeeDM101):  Love empathic electro pop like this.

The Gaslight Anthem - Here Comes My Man
The Gaslight Anthem - Howl:  OK, so it's not the '59 Sound, but Handwritten is still a solid anthem, and if you need your New Jersey rocker fix, and I know you do, you should still get this one.

MP3 blog 2013/06/10

blog 2013/06/10 - the weird must flow and it keeps all progressing onward

Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni ba - Mali Koori:  The playing is incredible, but it is the aesthetics of the recording methods that really make this one shine for me.  Love the production.

Bobby McFerrin & Esperanza Spalding - Swing Low:  Oh Bobby, I just can't dig your new album Spirityouall.  All hymnals, mostly tragically uninspired.  But this, oh I do love covers of Swing Low, so I had to skim this off the top.

Broken Social Scene - Deathcock:  New old stock BSS leaks out for the nostalgia tour bonanza.

Chance The Rapper - Smoke Again ft Ab-Soul:  OK, not loving all of Acid Rap, but really appreciate the flow on this one.

Deadbeat - Horns of Jericho
Deadbeat - The Elephant in the Pool
Deadbeat - Yard:  You all know I'm devastatingly harsh on electronic records.  Most albums are really mediocre as a whole, or should have been a 12" only.  Maybe a double 12".  But oh the filler.  Welcome to Eight, the latest album from Deadbeat where it truly is all fucking killer, no lazy filler.  This is one of the first electronic danceyalbums in a long while where I look forward to putting it on from start to finish.  So so so highly recommended.

Ellie Goulding - Hanging On (Illo Bootleg):  Goulding in the trap!

George Maple - OPST :  Gorgeous jazzy vocals offered up on a perfectly light platter of bass.  Amazing.

Major Lazer - Bubble Butt ft Bruno Mars, Tyga & Mystic:  You were expecting, what, Kantian discourse?

Sam Amidon - Bright Sunny South
Sam Amidon - My Old Friend
Sam Amidon - Weeping Mary:  Sam Amidon is back with a new album, Bright Sunny South, featuring his wholly unique blend of apocalyptic Appalachian folk hymns fused with start naked pop culture horror.  Easily destined for my Best Of 2013 list.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

The Knife - Without You My Life Would Be Boring:  Another track from the epic Shaking The Habitual.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

MP3 blog 2013/06/04

blog 2013/06/04 - A crow(d) loves a comeback

AN21 & Max Vangeli - Bombs Over Capitals (Lars Aar Remix):  Smooth lounge house with some perfect carnival pads all around.

Bola - MSBH Fade (Miles Seaton and Blue Hawaii)
Bola - Yine Ntaripaga:  So…  Bola did a set of remices for Awesome Tapes From Africa?  Dang.  I was on that blog for a year but after accumulating a backlog of 80 tapes I hadn't listened to, had to bail.  But woah this EP is amazing.  Highly recommended.

Dumbo Gets Mad - Tahiti Hungry Jungle

Ghost Beach - Close Enough ft Noosa:  The 80s!  They seethe and boil forth!

Ginger & The Ghost - One Type Of Dark (Ta-ku Remix):  First up on the trapmance tip, Ta-Ku is back swith some snappy ish.

Hakobune - The Tracery:  With an ominous title like "Watching The Prescribed Burn" I guess I was expecting darket, but these lush drone blankets still fit me oh so snug.

Husky - History's Door:  New track from the album "Forever So".

JJAMZ - Heartbeat (Chrome Wolves Remix):  The new electro pop brings in the snares and lets it all ride.

Madjo - Where Did You Sleep Last Night:  No, this is not a "Nirvana cover".  Gah, kids these days!

Michael Kiwanuka - I'll Get Along (DJ iZem Bootleg Remix):  This track rambles on top itself in some of the most delicious ways.  Love it.

Minoru Muraoka - Positive & Negative (Cut Chemist Edit):  Oh yes oh yes, you remember those strings!  We're on some Ninja Tune cratedigging stuff right here.

Poldoore - Nothing Left To Say:  Oh hey!  Speaking of iconic string lines…

Polly Scattergood - Wanderlust:  Can a chorus come dripping with more breathy lust for adventure?

The Little Ones - Forro:  From The Dawn Sang Along

Tom Waits & Kool Keith - Spacious Thoughts (N.A.S.A.):  The NASA stuff is pretty much all cheeseball, but oh I've been saving this gem.
