MP3 blog 2014/05/27

blog 2014/05/27 - reform the pod, fluff the pillows

What I lack in discipline I make up for in cuddles:  http://thetastates.com/mp3s/blog/blog20140527.zip

Minotaur Shock - Janet:  My favourite train-chugging track from the 2012 Orchard.

Owen Pallett - On A Path
Owen Pallett - The Secret Seven:  In Conflict!  The new Owen Pallett is here and I am all aflutter.   And David Altmejd has a new exhibition!  Perhaps the stars will align in my lifelong goal of making them kiss???  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

The Boats - River Calder:  Time.  Give it time.  Let it take your time.

The Haxan Cloak - Dieu
The Haxan Cloak - The Drop:  Darkcore electronics from Excavation.

The Hold Steady - Spinners
The Hold Steady - Wait A While:  I haven't taken in all of Teeth Dreams yet, but I already like it more than their last one.  The vocal reverb seems an odd choice, but I'm letting it grow on me.

V.i.v.e.k - Soundman:  Yessss back to the harcore dubstep yessssss.

Xxyyxx - Dmt:  Choral reverb washes!

Yppah - Film Burn
Yppah - R. Mullen:  Fey pop downtempo bliss from Film Burn.  Recommended!

MP3 blog 2014/05/21

blog 2014/05/21 - this grid is empty

Fret the frets on fire:  http://thetastates.com/mp3s/blog/blog20140521.zip

Cloud Nothings - I'm Not Part Of Me
Cloud Nothings - Now Here In:  The new album is here and Here And Nowhere Else is pretty darn swell.  I'm not sure it offers anything above and beyond the other ones, but it maintains the status quo of being sing-along garage rock awesome.

iTAL tEK - Phantom:  Cerebral bowel shaker from the 2011 Amnesty EP.

Martyn - Right Star!:  The sun comes up in the morning and you play this all the way to your cereal bowl.

MartyParty - Desert Crunk:  Exploitation breakbeat from the Young Pimp Volume 1.

Mvscles - Sweet N Sour:  There is a history of pervse pop that just sinks its teeth in, and the tradition just builds.

Nosaj Thing - Safe
Nosaj Thing - Snap:  Inspired and moody IDM breakbeat from the 2013 album Home.

O L V - Close To Us ft Låpsley (GXNXVS Remix):  Drippy synth all over this beat.

Style of Eye & Magnus the Magnus - The Antidote (Pleasurekraft's Gorillas In The Mids Remix):  SOO is one of those delightfully consistant tech producers that we never quite leave.

Sufjan Stevens - The Dress Looks Nice On You:  Dipping back to 2004 from a 7'' rarity…

Synkro - Progression:  So much of Synkro just washes by with a meh, but here the elements gel in a way that really grabs me.

The Black Dog - Black Chamber Order (Blawan Remix):  Blawan's another name where I just jump up and down and exclaim oooooooo lemme hear.

White Hinterland - Sickle No Sword:  This is a mess of a pop song, by pop song standards, but all holds together firmly.  From the new album Baby.

William Tyler - Geography of Nowhere
William Tyler - The World Set Free:  SOLO GUITAR, MOTHERFUCKERS.  ROCK ON.  Impossible Truth is amazing.

MP3 blog 2014/05/13

blog 2014/05/07 - This is just a clicking sound on repeat forever

It's a tech overdose:  http://thetastates.com/mp3s/blog/blog20140513.zip

Ana Tijoux - Vengo:  Love her flow on this one.

Matias Aguayo - Rollerskate (Marcus Rossknecht Version):  I have never been an Aguayo fan, mostly shrugged off much of his output, but this mix is the perfect harnessing of all the little parts I really always wanted.

Moderat - Ilona
Moderat - Let In The Light
Moderat - Therapy:  The glorious and expanded "II (tour edition)" is up there with Bonobo's Black Sands + remixes as prime example of stellar album + extras combo.  There isn't much slouching here, and so much to be excited for.  A must for any IDM fans.  Recommended.

Modeselektor - Maik The Chicken:  The tech continues on the gloomy funk.

Orbital - Distractions
Orbital - New France ft Zola Jesus:  2 shining highlights from the 2012 comback album Wonky.

Ripperton - A Skilift Upstairs The Sleeping City (Max Cooper Remix):  How did I end up in this big goopy tech bucket?

Ryan Teague - Cell Cycle
Ryan Teague - Neo:  These orgasmic swirling pieces come from the highly recommended Field Drawings.

Rye Rye - Holla Holla:  I've been a bit meh on most Rye Rye, but this one is up to snuff banging.

Seams - The Glow

Shivering Timbers - Generations:  Classic blues rock swooner.

Touch Sensitive - Slowments:  I am all over any Art Of Noise rework, and so all over this one.

Ulrich Schnauss & ASC - 77:  Lush IDM from the 77 EP.

MP3 blog 2014/05/07

blog 2014/05/07 - The take-away from this exercise is that goa trance is kind of terrible

Don't act surprised:  http://thetastates.com/mp3s/blog/blog20140507.zip

Gossip - Love In A Foreign Place:  My 2nd favourite track from A Joyful Noise from 2012.  The album is a bit of a sleeper, with a few glorious songs worth of Hot Chip sizzling on it.

Jacques Greene - Ready:  Totally wins at "best subby synth pads evah".

Japandroids - Sex and Dying in High Society:  B-side from the 2010 Younger Us 7 inch record.

Jessie Ware - If You're Never Gonna Move:  This is what I always wished Lily Allen sounded like:  a perfect soulful pairing with great programming beneath.

Julia Holter - Hello Stranger
Julia Holter - Maxim's I:  I wasn't all about Loud City Song, but these 2 songs just call out to me.

Junior Boys - You'll Improve Me (Caribou Remix):  Get in on that min tech pop level.

Kool A.D. - Damien Hirst (fet. MondreM.A.N. & Dope G) (prod. by Young L)
Kool A.D. - Manny Pacquiao:  My 2 faves from the '51' release.

Koreless - Lost in Tokyo (Jacques Greene Remix):  I really really realy can't say no to the J.G., and neither should you.

Mloski - Hair Above Me
Mloski - Just The Way It Is:  Labyrinth offers a few slabs of great downtempo bass jams with all of the uplifitng pads and chopped samples the kids really go for.

Ricardo Donoso - Equivalence of the Thirteen
Ricardo Donoso - The Bow and the Lyre:  If I ever hear the genre name "trance", I hope to god it always refers to the methodical plodding brilliance of Assimilating the Shadow.  This album is electro trance in it's purest incarnation.  There is no drop.  There is no time.  There is only this.  Recommended.
