MP3 blog 2015/02/26

blog 2015/02/25 - that's it, we're done with this

fuck winter:  http://thetastates.com/mp3s/blog/blog20150226.zip

Adam F & Cory Enemy - When It Comes To You ft Margot (Rags Remix):  Sweet pop bass on that post-garage 3.0 tip.

Alvvays - Next of Kin:  This reminds me of a happy fusion of so many indie folk pop faves. A+

Ben Frost - Nolan (Regis Self Medicating Edit):  I am a huge fan of Frost's catalogue but his recent releases have left me sighing a bit.  I could not get in to Aurora, and on the remix front only this track really sparked me.

Chaka Khan x Tensnake - All Good (DJ Katch Blend):  CHAKA! CHAKA KHAN!

Danny Byrd - Bad Boy (Back Again):  I always make time for checking new Danny Byrd and oh this jump up track from 2013's 4th Dimension puts a huge smile on my face.

Eboi - As I'm Falling ft Little Jinder:  Good verses, but oh the rare joy of a slick chorus package.

Elderbrook - Rewinding:  This has a groove like a James Blake track, but with a bit of an edge off the sorrow.

Emika - Searching (Radio Edit)
Emika - Sing To Me:  2 smooth cuts from the 2013 album Searching, Emika's dark-tonged rnb really needs a second listen, especially now that FKA Twigs is blowing up.

Gold Panda - Enoshima
Gold Panda - My Father In Hong Kong 1961:  These are my highlights from the album Half Of Where You Live.  The first being a great plodding IDM track, the second evoking 20th century minimalism with great flair that I hope inspires other producers.

James Vincent McMorrow - You Know:  LIKE. BUTTAH.

Lowell - The Bells:  awww yus new cancon electropop!

Mina Tindle - I Command:  OK OK more great pop!

Night Panther - Desire:  Even the band name screams 80s!

Panda Bear - Untying The Knot:  This came on and I was like oh cool this is an awesome Panda Bear tribute but OK for reals Panda Bear has ditched a lot of the things that I feel were dragging down their enjoyment.  Check this B-side from the Noah EP.

Pharrell Williams - Happy (Kaytranada Edition):  We all know Pharrell needs to lay low and let the synth bass simmer a bit longer.

Sigur Rós - Sæglópur (Austin's Fault Edit):  I am kind of shocked there hasn't been much more of this since dayyam this is some sexy breaks.

The Twilight Sad - Nobody Wants To Be Here & Nobody Wants To Leave:  By all measures, Nobody Wants To Be Here & Nobody Wants To Leave is a GOOD album, but for whatever reason it just didn't grab me.  It didn't excite me like so many of the others.  AM I DEAD INSIDE?

Years & Years - Take Shelter (Stal Remix):  EPIC ELECTRO POP YESSS

MP3 blog 2015/02/17

blog 2015/02/17 - Only you and the night.

You can't hold it all back:  http://thetastates.com/mp3s/blog/blog20150217.zip

Angela James - Drink And Try Not To Cry:  Oh god!  *bawls*

Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - Whipped:  Quiet little number from Singer's Grave A Sea of Tongues.

Dan Mangan + Blacksmith - Vessel:  Dan's epic qualities hit a perfect peak on this great track from the new album Club Meds.

Death Grips - Runway J (1)
Death Grips - Runway N (3):  Fashion Week is all about the beats bout the beats bout the beats

Disclosure - Confess To Me ft Jessie Ware
Disclosure - Grab Her!
Disclosure - Help Me Lose My Mind ft London Grammar
Disclosure - Latch ft Sam Smith:  Oh hey just a reminder that Settle is one of the best dance albums of recent years.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.  How do you not own it yet?

Four Tet - Parallel Jalebi (Hudson Mohawke RMX):  Like peanut butter and fucking chocolate.  No wait, don't like, fuck chocolate, but ummm.   Nevermind.  Nice track.

Grubby Mitts - To a Friends House the Way is Never Long:  This is one of those tracks that springs up out of nowhere and you're like holy shit how did life get so awesome?  Oh fuck it, no who cares that The Books broke up because here comes Time is What Stops Everything Happening at at Once.

Kappa Kavi - Challenger:  The post 8-bit era gives us the ecstatic video game music that Lazer Swords promised us.

Mark Molnar & Craig Pedersen - IMOO Vol 4 (100) live improv:  2 Ottawa jazz heavyweights go head to head, recorded live at an IMOO event.

Prince - Funknroll (Canblaster Remix):  Did you know Prince still is releasing albums?  No?  Yeah apparnetly Springsteen still does too.  No, really.  Welp, thank goodness for the remixers, distilling this down to the prime goodness.

SidiRum - La Danza De Las Trompas (Cocotaxi Remix)
SidiRum - Le Soleil (Umoja Remix):  Groove chill party bass all the time

The Decemberists - Cavalry Captain
The Decemberists - Lake Song
The Decemberists - The Wrong Year:  I'll say it plain:  What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World is not a spectacular album.  It is about 50% really good, and a few songs meh, and a few songs have some cringeworthy parts that I skip over them faster than you can say "Rocks in your socks".  So yeah, give it a spin and sift out the jewels.  And here is to hoping they'll reward us in a year or two with an epic rock opera about the mythology of gold prospectors suffering oxygen deprivation.

blog 2015/02/11 - There is a panda in this car that needs snuggles

Unbuckle the belt, it's all good:  http://thetastates.com/mp3s/blog/blog20150211.zip

Annie Gosfield - Daughters of the Industrial Revolution:  this is a postrock jazz groove that is all over my eros.

Bjork - Atom Dance ft Antony Hegarty
Bjork - Black Lake:  Vulnicura is a revelation, an incredible distillation of forms that had been played with in the past.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

C.Diab - Young Hums:  Oh shimmering glory, wave over me.  God I love this Beacons.  RECOMMENDED.

D'Angelo and The Vanguard - Ain't That Easy
D'Angelo and The Vanguard - Another Life
D'Angelo and The Vanguard - Really Love:  Black Messiah.  Amazing.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

DJ Neber - Cha Cha La Negra
DJ Neber - Chin Chan Chow
DJ Neber - La Esquina Del Movimiento:  Ooooo some saucy breaks from Mi Disco Cha Cha Cha!!!

Mary J. Blige - Whole Damn Year:  Beautiful track from The London Sessions.

Pharmakon - Bestial Burden:  This new Pharmakon is like grindy industrial to my ears.  Far less chaotic noise, this is like some magical Einsturzende early ish where they worked with Diamanda Galas.

Tinashe X Dubbel Dutch - 2 On X Rare Earth (Flight Mix):  All slinky up in this bass bin.

You - 100 Lanterns:  Whispy and delicate pop world to end it all

And I can taste the waste:  http://thetastates.com/mp3s/blog/blog20150204.zip

(Crack) - Dread U:  Dread indeed.

Baths - Aminals:  Happy little plodder from Cerulean.

Betoko - Xuplak:  This is a slow build, give it time, bliss outs abound.

Blue Hawaii - Get Happier:  The vocals here are stunning and just laying on top of a bubbling footwerk platter.

Chaz French - Intro:  Woah, this is intense.  And great.

Cut Copy - Meet Me In A House Of Love (TJANI remix):  Classic styled electrohouse pop!

Deerhoof - Paradise Girls:  Oh gosh this song from La Isla Bonita is so wonderful.  And yes, love girls who play the bass guitar!

Ghost Mutt - Oh Boy Oh Baby:  Bass clap party.  Just claps.  Only.  Alone.

Golden Coast - Dream And An MPC (Vice & Justyle Remix):  Squeaky cup pop explosion.  So good.

Kryshe - Africa:  Beautiful softness from the new album In Between

Prince Koloni - Luku A Meisje (Uproot Andy & Geko Jones Remix):  Oh Uproot Andy, you're the best.  Always dishing us so many lovely things, all DJ friendlified.

Quantic - Muevelo Negro ft Nidia Gongora (Werkha Remix):  So. Bad. Ass.

Riva Ridge - Slide:  Mmmmm the dreamy guitar and synth just mesh together.

Rome Fortune - FriendsMaybe ft ILOVEMAKONNEN:  Not since Biz Markie has an off-tune chorus been so lovably dominant.

Sauvage - Vendredi:  Sweet squeakpop

Thus Owls - As Long As We Try A Little:  OMG yess some Joanna Newsom styled psych rock wonderment from Turning Rocks.

Zu - Mimosa Hostilis:  This scronk goes back a few years, heaviness from Carboniferous.
